How your team's AI is paid for

Your team's AI, paid your way.

AI included

Nothing to set up: no API keys, no vendor accounts, no billing with an AI company, no rate limits to manage. Your plan includes AI credits every month.

Your own key

For teams that already have an AI vendor agreement, want their own rate limits or data terms, or want to pay the vendor directly. Use your own key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI or Ollama, and your plan costs less.

Four questions, one pick.

Answer as many as you like. The pick changes as you go, and you can change your choice later in Settings.

  1. Do you already have an API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI or Ollama?
  2. Does your company need its own agreement with the AI vendor, for its data terms or its rate limits?
  3. Would you rather pay the AI vendor directly, and keep an eye on that bill yourself?
  4. Do you want nothing to set up: no API keys, no vendor accounts?

How the pick is made

A yes to the agreement question means your own key, since your own agreement with a vendor applies only there. Otherwise the pick goes the way most of your answers lean, and a tie goes to AI included, the one with nothing to set up.

Leans to your own key

  • You already have a key
  • Your company needs its own agreement with the vendor
  • You'd rather pay the vendor directly

Leans to AI included

  • No key yet
  • You'd rather not have an AI bill of your own
  • You want nothing to set up

The two, side by side.

Setting up

AI included: Nothing to set up. No API keys, no vendor accounts.

Your own key: Make a key with Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or xAI, and paste it into Runner. A guide for each vendor walks you through it.

Who you pay for the AI

AI included: Only your plan. It includes AI credits every month, and you can add a pack whenever you want more.

Your own key: The AI vendor, directly, under your own agreement, and your plan costs less.

Agreement and rate limits

AI included: Your team's AI runs on Runner's account, so there are no rate limits to manage with a vendor.

Your own key: Your vendor agreement and your rate limits apply.

Limits you set

AI included: A monthly purchase limit, an optional per-product limit, a daily safety limit, and alerts.

Your own key: The same limits, in dollars of what your vendor charges, plus a spending limit you set with the vendor.

Changing your mind

Change your choice later in Settings, either way.

A key you connect

A key you connect is used before credits, even on AI included.

Going with your own key? Here's how to make one.

One guide for each vendor: the account, paying, the key itself, a spending limit at the vendor, and where it goes in Runner. Every step at a vendor comes from that vendor's own documentation.

In Runner, an owner or admin pastes the key under Settings, then LLM providers, and every product in your organization can use it.

Questions about AI included and your own key

Can I use my own key on any plan?

Yes. Every plan comes both ways, and you can change your choice later in Settings. A guide walks you through making a key and setting a spending limit with your vendor. A key you connect is used before credits, even on AI included.

What happens at zero credits?

AI work pauses without overage charges. Buy credits to continue. Optional auto-reload can help, but purchase limits or failed payments can still interrupt work.

Do unused credits roll over?

Your plan's credits don't: each month's arrive with the cycle and end with it, on yearly plans too. Credits you buy last 12 months, and your plan's credits are always spent first.

Every plan comes both ways.
