Pick your main colour, or paste its hex code.
Choose a rule: neighbours, a complement, a triad or shades.
Copy the codes, and check any text colour on its background with the contrast checker.

Which rule should I pick?
Neighbours, colours either side on the wheel, look calm and safe. A complement, the opposite colour, gives an accent that stands out. A triad is livelier. Shades keep everything in one colour for a quiet look.
Why are there a paper and an ink?
A palette needs a background and a text colour as much as accents. Both are tinted towards your colour so the set feels like one family.
Can I use these colours for text?
Check first. A colour that looks strong as a fill can be too light for small text. Paste the pair into the contrast checker to see whether it passes.
