How it works

  1. Paste the page's text, or the draft you are writing.

  2. Pick single words, or two- or three-word phrases.

  3. Read the table, and check the word you want to be found for is near the top without crowding the rest.

Questions about the Keyword Density Checker

How is keyword density calculated?

A word's density is how many times it appears divided by the total number of words. For a phrase, it is the phrase's count times its length in words, over the total. A word used 6 times in 300 words has a density of 2%.

What keyword density should I aim for?

Search engines have no target density. Write for the reader, use the words they search for naturally, and use this to catch a page that never says its main topic or repeats one word until it reads oddly.

Why are words like the and and missing?

Common words are left out by default because they top every table. Switch the filter off to count every word.
